Artists Gallery - J.Packard Wright

Artist's Biography:

J. Packard Wright, also known as Jackie Wright, has been painting and drawing since early childhood. At the age of eleven, her mother saw that her main interest was in art and enrolled her in The Miami Art School in Miami, Florida.  There, the doors were opened into the world of oils, pastels and charcoal. Landscapes, animals and people were her subjects. This interest turned into a passion which has never diminished.  She grew up, married, had a family and still pursued perfecting her skills.  Finally, she realized her dream of a degree in art from the University of New Mexico in 1974.  This was after a few false starts when “life happens”.  She has studied with Steve Gray.  She also studied figurative painting with Peter Cox at The Art Student’s League in New York.

Since that time, she has taught both privately and at institutions such as the Goddard Art Center in Ardmore, Oklahoma and the Albuquerque Women’s Club.  She has given a number of workshops at Madill Art Club in Oklahoma, Ardmore Art Club in Oklahoma, Trinity Art Guild in Bedford, Texas and Farmer’s Branch Art Club in Texas.

Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma has three of her works in their permanent collection and the Higher Education Center Library in Ardmore commissioned her to paint a memorial for their beloved librarian who had passed away.

She has won many Best of Show awards and first prizes from Albuquerque to Bedford, Ardmore, Madill and McKinney.

Because Jackie is a prolific painter, she loves the medium of acrylic for its quick drying qualities.  She mostly paints on stretched canvas and occasionally on watercolor paper. She also likes pastels.  However, more than painting she loves the act of drawing and is quick to credit God’s grace for this ability.
