Artist's Statement:
The language of art is unique because it speaks to us visually instead of verbally. The connection between artist and viewer requires using the senses, intellect and emotions in a poetic way. My work represents an emotional and spiritual attachment for places I consider to be sacred.
Light is of paramount importance in my work in that it symbolizes the human soul in
most cultures. The psychologist, Carl Jung, says that we seek a connection in our
search for knowledge, understanding and continuity in life. He calls this commonality
of human experience the collective unconscious. In my work it is our connection with
this universal soul that gives rise to that feeling of inexplicable understanding when we encounter an enigmatic image.
It is my belief that we yearn a quiet retreat to a safe place before accepting the realization that true sanctuary must be realized within ourselves. Purpose is the question and the answer.

Lucia received a BFA and MA from Texas Woman's University. She taught college level courses and workshops. Her quest for knowledge continues to follow many paths, evidenced with each new art work she creates.
