• a juried art show for adults - March 11-13, 2011,
• a non-juried art show for adults - March 11-13, 2011,
• and a juried art show for students - April 5-9, 2011.

Join us at our monthly Art Club meeting. Club business will be conducted from 9:30am-10am followed by the program at 10 am. As usual guests are welcome to join us.

Guest Speaker: Jennifer Funk
Dust off your cameras and pick up your paint brushes!  We are going to talk about all the different ways our cameras can assist us in the art of painting, from taking good photographs outside for landscapes to setting up good lighting inside for portraits and still life’s.  We will discuss how to use our cameras to help us learn from some of the greatest artists in the world.  We will also talk about cameras and lenses and how to photograph and submit your fine art to a local contest.  A good camera and a little knowledge can provide a tremendous reservoir of artistic material.

Jennifer Funk, artist, photographer and equestrian, will be sharing her knowledge on these subjects at the February 10 meeting.  Jennifer is the coordinator for the Frank Covino workshops in the Dallas area and has been studying with Frank for the past seven years.

Mini Art Show
Members, remember to bring one of your works of art for the Mini Art Show. When the votes are tallied, the first and second place winners will receive gift certificates for Asel Art.

Guidelines for the Mini Art Show:

An artist can win (1st or 2nd) only two times in a club year.

A particular art work can be entered only once in its lifetime.

All 2D and 3D media is eligible.

The art work does not need to be framed, but it must be able to stand on its own.

The Art Club of McKinney Centennial
The Art Club of McKinney will be celebrating its centennial in a few short years (2014) and is beginning preparations now. At the last club meeting a drawing was held for a door prize (with all proceeds going to the Art Club of McKinney Centennial Fund). Lynette Terrell was the winner at the last meeting, taking home a lovely painting by J. Packard Wright, shown below.

                         

Look forward to more door prizes at future meetings to enrich the Art Club of McKinney Centennial Fund.

February's meeting will include a Silent Auction to help fund the upcoming Art Shows. If you have something way too good for a yard sale, but you don't have a place for it any more, consider donating it to the Silent Auction. If you wish to donate, please bring it to the meeting and include a minimum bid amount. We will have tables set up so everyone can bid silently for the displayed items. Since you are donating these items to a non-profit organization, they can be used as a tax deduction.

The Art Club of McKinney, founded in 1914 in McKinney, Texas, was created to encourage the appreciation of visual art in the community. Nearly 100 years later, the club continues to support this goal with:

• monthly meetings for members and visitors
• lectures on art topics
• demonstrations and workshops of various media and techniques
• art shows for adults and children
• organized visits to museums and gallery exhibits
• field trips to “paint outside the gallery”
• directory of local artists
• online gallery for art club members

Monthly Meetings
The Art Club of McKinney meets at the Heard-Craig Gallery, 306 North Church Street, McKinney, Texas, on the 2nd Thursday of each month, August through May. The business meeting starts at 9:30 am and the program starts at 10 am.

The program generally includes a presentation/demo by a visiting artist and, after a brief lunch break, a workshop taught by the visiting artist.

Light refreshments and time to socialize are available at the beginning, middle, and/or end of each meeting.

Each artist is invited to bring a piece of their work for members to enjoy and vote on. The winner receives a gift certificate and is featured on this page.

Toni Wengler took 1st place in the "Mini Art Show" at the last Art Club meeting with an amazing colored pencil drawing.

 

 

 

 

   

 

 

Claudia Caddill took second place with an enchantingly beautiful flock of birds and foliage done in oils and oil pastels.
