Join us at our monthly Art Club meeting for our annual luncheon and installation of the new club officers. The luncheon is a catered meal of crispy chicken taco salad, sopapillas and beverage. The cost is $12 per person and must be paid for in advance. Give your check made out to "The Art Club" to Lynette Terrell, Treasurer.

Constitution Updated
The Art Club of McKinney Board members recently reviewed and amended the Art Club Constitution, By-Laws, and Policies to reflect actual club practices, club roles and duties, and to clarify in print, practices that are currently implied. The new document was emailed to members with email, and mailed to those who do not have email two weeks before the meeting. The revisions were approved unanimously by the members at last month's meeting.

Guest Speaker: Jennifer Funk
Our guest speaker this month is Jennifer Funk, artist, photographer and equestrian.  Jennifer is the coordinator for the Frank Covino workshops in the Dallas area, and has been studying with Frank for the past seven years.

Jennifer says,"We are going to talk about all the different ways our cameras can assist us in the art of painting, from taking good photographs outside for landscapes to setting up good lighting inside for portraits and still lifes. We will discuss how to use our cameras to help us learn from some of the greatest artists in the world. We will also talk about cameras and lenses, and how to photograph and submit your fine art to a local contest. A good camera and a little knowledge can provide a tremendous reservoir of artistic material."

Silent Auction
We will continue our mini fund-raising with a mini Silent Auction. Bring new or gently used items early to set up for auction.  Forms will be provided.  Please participate, but remember if the items do not sell, you will take them back home.

Mini Art Show
Members, remember to bring one of your works of art for the Mini Art Show. When the votes are tallied, the first and second place winners will receive gift certificates for Asel Art.

The Art Club of McKinney, founded in 1914 in McKinney, Texas, was created to encourage the appreciation of visual art in the community. Nearly 100 years later, the club continues to support this goal with:

• monthly meetings for members and visitors
• lectures on art topics
• demonstrations and workshops of various media and techniques
• art shows for adults and children
• organized visits to museums and gallery exhibits
• field trips to “paint outside the gallery”
• directory of local artists
• online gallery for art club members

Monthly Meetings
The Art Club of McKinney meets at the Heard-Craig Gallery, 306 North Church Street, McKinney, Texas, on the 2nd Thursday of each month, August through May. The business meeting starts at 9:30 am and the program starts at 10 am.

The program generally includes a presentation/demo by a visiting artist and, after a brief lunch break, a workshop taught by the visiting artist.

Light refreshments and time to socialize are available at the beginning, middle, and/or end of each meeting.

Each artist is invited to bring a piece of their work for members to enjoy and vote on. The winner receives a gift certificate and is featured on this page.

Jackie Wright is starting drawing and acrylic painting classes in May at her studio. All who are interested are invited to a "Get Acquainted" studio visit on Sunday, May 1st from 2 - 5pm at 4427 Seville Lane in McKinney. Refreshments will be served, questions answered, materials lists provided and reservations taken. RSVP at 972-540-9192 or wrightart@sbcglobal.net would be very much appreciated. Class size is limited so first come, first served.
